Dr. Sarita Freedman is a Licensed Psychologist, in Calabasas, California. Formerly, she had a successful career as a special education teacher and trained future teachers, working with a diverse range of populations, including children with Autism, Emotional Disturbance, Intellectual Disabilities, Attention Deficit, Hyperactivity Disorder, Language Disorders, and Developmental Delay. Dr. Freedman also has extensive experience designing training programs for professionals and parents. She has worked with young children, adults, and their families for over 30 years. Her practice consists of conventional psychotherapy services for adults and children, and she carries a specialty in developmental disabilities, and specifically, in children and adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). She is the founder of College on the Spectrum™, whose mission it is to help students with autism spectrum disorders succeed in college and in life. Currently, Dr. Freedman is developing and conducting a unique training program on all aspects of working with individuals with ASD, for Marriage Family Therapy students at the California State University in Northridge. She also supervises their work with children and adults on the spectrum. This program simultaneously ensures that future mental health clinicians will understand and treat those on the spectrum more effectively, and also provides affordable psychotherapy for people with or affected by ASD.

Dr. Freedman has conducted professional seminars on a variety of topics. In particular, she has presented extensively on working with individuals of all ages with ASD, including individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome. She is the author of Developing College Skills in Students with Autism & Asperger’s Syndrome (Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2010), a book on preparing students with ASD for college.

Dr. Freedman’s expertise spans diagnosis and treatment of both adults and children with ASD, family support, general parenting and parenting for families of individuals with ASD, professional training/supervision, and publication of several articles. She is invited as a guest speaker, does classroom observations, trains educators, and teaches developmental, interactive parenting programs at both private and public schools and community outreach programs. Her appearances on television news broadcasts, internet radio shows, and internet websites focus on the many issues related to diagnosis and treatment of individuals with ASD.

Dr. Freedman is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Autism Society of America, Ventura County Autism Society, and Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism Association of New York. She is fully bilingual in Spanish.
